Bio  of Dave Gorshkov CEng FIET CMarEng MiMarEST     Dave was born in Cardiff and  graduated from the School of Maritime Studies ( Wales) in Marine Electrical  Engineering and went on to become a Chartered Electrical Engineer , Chartered  Marine Engineer and Fellow of the IET. He has consulted for numerous major  OEM’s and government agencies on advanced power electronics and power  generation systems used in transportation as well as Maritime applications  and has helped develop standards used across the world in transport systems  .     Dave was a serving seagoing senior  engineering officer for a number of years before taking up a shore based  career heading up a technical consultancy. For the past 7 years Dave has been  a shore based Technical Superintendent and was the High Voltage (HV)  propulsion and power generation systems Subject Matter Expert (SME) with  Carnival Group (Cunard and P&O). Prior to this Dave was based at MOD  Abbeywood as the Electrical Superintendent responsible for fleet maintenance  operations with the Royal Fleet Auxiliary after serving as a Systems  Engineering Officer (SEO) on various RFA vessels.     Dave has also been involved with new  ship designs incorporating the latest ‘Hybrid’ Li-Ion Battery Energy Storage  Systems (BESS) as well as managing energy recovery and power quality  projects. Recent projects include onshore power (OPS) systems for Fast Ferry operations  as well as upgrades to existing port infrastructures to deliver HV OPS.     Most recently Dave has taken up a  senior engineering role with the major defence contractor QinetiQ, who are  based at Haslar near Portsmouth, as the Marine High Voltage Power and  Propulsion subject matter expert (SME) supporting projects on Military ships  as well as Cruise, ROPAX and commercial shipping and ports operations  worldwide.
